"The Management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma has taken note of a recent online publication with the headline 'AAU Students protest over exams delays, Unpaid Lecturers And Management Inaction'.
We wish to clarify that a gathering was held at the university gate, aimed at bringing certain student concerns to the attention of the Management.
This is the opening statement of a press release issued by Otunba Mike Aladenika, Principal Assistant Registrar and Head of Information and Public Relations, Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma."
"According to Otunba Aladenika, the students involved are part-time students from the Directorate of Sciences and Humanities (DSH) who were seeking clarification on their course of study. He stated that the university management promptly responded to their concerns, providing further information and assurances that satisfied the students. 'There was no protest that warranted tension in the university, contrary to the erroneous report,' he clarified.
"For clarity, Otunba Aladenika noted that the current administration, led by Professor Sunday Olowo Samuel, inherited a dormant part-time program with a backlog of uncleared claims, examinations, and other issues. He further explained that the part-time program, which was once renowned, had faced significant challenges due to poor government funding over the past eight years and restrictive policies imposed by the previous Special Intervention Team (SIT). The current administration is working to address these issues and revitalize the program."
"Despite the significant challenges faced by the Directorate of Sciences and Humanities (DSH) over the years, the current university administration, led by Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sunday Olowo Samuel, has brought hope for restoration. Notably, after an 11-month delay, the 2022/2023 first semester lectures commenced in March 2024 and concluded with examinations in January 2025, following the payment of lecturers' claims for 2020/2021. The second semester lectures ran from February 26 to May 2, 2025, paving the way for the new academic session.
"According to Otunba Aladenika, the university's Public Relations Officer, the administration has achieved notable milestones, including securing JAMB registration numbers and admission letters for DSH students. Efforts are underway to enable DSH graduands participate in the NYSC program, similar to their full-time counterparts. The university is currently advertising admissions for the 2024/2025 academic session, and the response from interested candidates has been encouraging."
"Notably, the part-time students' results have seen significant progress. Following the new result release policy approved by the Acting Vice-Chancellor, the Computer-Based Examinations (CBEs) for 100 Level students of the Directorate of Science and Humanities were processed and released within one week. These results are already available on the University Portal, providing transparency and efficiency.
"The success of this policy has set a new standard, and efforts are now being made to apply it retrospectively to clear outstanding results for part-time students from previous sessions," said the University's PRO.
"For regular students, Otunba Mike Aladenika announced that all results for the 2023/2024 academic session are now available online, enabling students to access their academic standing and proceed with accurate course registration for the new session. This development marks a significant improvement from previous years' delays and uncertainty.
"The university has made unprecedented progress in processing results. Following the Senate's approval of guidelines for result computation on June 25, and the conclusion of the grace period for students with registration issues on June 27, final-year students' results are being computed. Once departmental boards of studies review and approve the results, they will be presented to the Senate for approval.
"Otunba Aladenika expressed concern over an online report claiming students protested over staff-related issues, such as staff audit, sitting allowances, and other staff matters. He suggested that unseen hands of staff members might have been behind the alleged 'aborted student protest', which deviated from genuine student concerns."
