Unprecedented Achievement: AAU Ekpoma Secures an NDDC 11‑Kilometre Intra‑Campus Road Network Project, Courtesy of Chief Dan Orbih

Prior to the flag‑off of the 11‑kilometre NDDC road project on 4 December 2025—facilitated by the Pro‑Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Dan Osi Orbih—the university faced a severe shortage of intra‑campus roadways.

Apart from the main road that runs from the entrance gate through the administrative block by the left wing to the International Students’ Centre, the ICT building and the library, and another stretch that passes the Pastor Chris Oyakhilome Auditorium, there were no other motorable routes on campus.

In eight years under Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Special Intervention Team, the institution could not boast of receiving a mere graded earth road. Even as previous administrations and governing councils had not prioritised intra‑campus road connectivity as essential infrastructure for the university’s growth.
Following the appointment and inauguration of the Chief Dan Orbih‑led Governing Council, the council resolved to leave the university in a better state than it found it at the start of its term.

According to the Pro‑Chancellor, “My leadership of the Governing Council has been more resolute than before in working for the university’s growth. The 11‑km road project was initiated by the immediate past Acting Vice‑Chancellor, Professor Sunday Olowo Samuel, when he visited me after our inauguration. He asked me to approach the Governor to secure a network of linked roads, noting that gully erosion was visibly devastating the few existing roads.”
He continued, “Given my knowledge of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s commitment to reposition the university in every respect, I felt it incumbent upon me to seek alternatives and think outside the box, which led to the NDDC road‑support project.”
The story of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma’s infrastructural development took a turn for the better at the flag‑off of the NDDC‑powered 11‑km intra‑campus road construction project, facilitated by the university’s Pro‑Chancellor, Chief Dan Osi Orbih.

During the ceremonial flag‑off, Edo State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Emmanuel Paddy Iyamu, said the road project aligns with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE agenda for good governance. “The governor has made it abundantly clear that we must change the narrative and do things right,” he stated. He added that, upon assuming office, the governor directed that all medical and nursing students who had not been inducted be cleared.
Dr. Iyamu thanked the Pro‑Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Dan Orbih, for his direction in advancing the university’s development, and also expressed appreciation to the immediate past Acting Vice‑Chancellor, Professor Sunday Olowo Samuel, for his service to the institution.

In her opening remarks, the Vice‑Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Prof. Mrs. Eunice Eboiserehimen Omonzejie, thanked the Pro‑Chancellor, Chief Dan Orbih, for his unrelenting efforts to grow the university.
“It is a fact that our chairman has the capacity to drive the growth and development of this university. Sir, your ability to fix our institution is not in doubt. We believe in you, and we are praying for you,” she said.

In his own addressing, the Pro‑Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Chief Dan Orbih, said, “Ambrose Alli University’s wheel of progress is now in motion, destined to take the institution to greater heights.”
He continued, “Governor Monday Okpebholo appointed me to head the Governing Council. Although I am not from his party, his determination to change the growth narrative of the institution compels us to support his plans fully. We will also bring more projects like this to other areas of need.”
