AAU Assures Safety, Debunks Fake Memo Amid Ekpoma Security Concerns

EKPOMA — The management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has reassured students, parents, staff and the general public that the institution remains safe and fully operational despite recent security concerns in the host community.

In a statement issued by the university’s Principal Assistant Registrar and Head of Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, the institution said academic activities have continued without disruption, noting that students are on campus and lectures are ongoing as scheduled.

The management, however, raised alarm over the circulation of what it described as a “purported memo” allegedly issued by the National Association of Ika Students, calling for the closure or evacuation of the university.
It dismissed the document as false and misleading, attributing it to “mischief makers” bent on causing panic and destabilising the academic environment.

According to the statement, the legitimate leadership of the association has distanced itself from the memo and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and order within the university community.

The university also commended the Edo State Government for its swift response to security concerns in Ekpoma and surrounding areas, noting that enhanced security measures and the deployment of relevant agencies have helped to stabilise the situation and restore public confidence.

AAU management further disclosed that it has reinforced internal security arrangements by increasing surveillance, strengthening patrol operations and collaborating closely with security agencies to ensure the safety of students and staff.
While urging students to remain calm and focused on their studies, the university advised against the spread or consumption of unverified information, stressing that only official communication channels should be relied upon.

The institution reiterated its commitment to providing a safe and conducive learning environment, encouraging all members of the university community to go about their normal activities without fear.
