As Nigeria joins the rest of the world to mark the World anti- corruption day, the Economic and Financial crime commission ( EFCC) says it has secured high rating convictions, while hundreds of millions of Naira, in cash, property and valuables have also been recovered at the centre and the varrious zones.
Speaking after the road work to mark the year 2019 International anti corruption day in Benin city, Edo state capital, the Benin zonal Head, Mr. muhtar Bello said the zone has secured 84 convictions due to deligence in it's investigations and prosecution of cases.
According to Bello, in the year 2019, the sum of N217, 268, 236.00. was recovered along with several properties, including houses, assorted cars and vessels.
The Benin Zonal head said the commission was determined to win the fight against corruption through its preventive measures, diligent investigation and prosecution.
According to him, “For us at the EFCC, we recognise the fact that we cannot win the fight against corruption alone. We need the support and cooperation of all stakeholders in order to make meaningful progress in restoring transparency, accountability and due process in public governance.
He then urged members and leaders of various interest groups, trade unions, civil society organisations and professional bodies to facilitate mass education, mobilisation and active participation of Nigerians in the fight against corruption
Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to fight corruption within the ambit of the law.
Governor Wike who spoke on Monday during the “Walk Against Corruption ” organised by the EFCC to mark this year’s International Anti-corruption Day as observed in Port Harcourt, said any action outside the tenets of the law is corruption.
He appealed to the EFCC to ensure that they establish processes to fight corruption within the rule of law.
“We urge the EFCC to fight corruption within the law. Anything that is against the rule of law is no longer a fight against corruption”, Governor Wike said
