Residents of ilu-abo, about 2km away from Akure, Ondo state capital on AKURE- OWO - BENIN road had their night truncated Saturday morning at about 1am when a truck loaded with dynamites exploded destroying property worth millions of Naira.

SPARKNEWS NAIJA reliably gathered that the truck in a convoy was on transit to Edo state  before it reportedly developed fault, thus terminating it's journey.

According to the police commissioner, Ondo state command, Undie Adie, while briefing newsmen, the explosion may have affected over 70 houses, while no fewer than 13 worshipers inside Possibility Prayer Mountain For All Nations Church were reportedly injured and rushed to the hospital.

CP Adie said the highway has been cut off thereby preventing motorists traveling to the Northern and Western part of Nigeria through Akure from gaining access.

Reports also say about seven structures in a school opposite the church we're also destroyed even as three security men attached to the school we're also injured.

Residents of ilu-Abo and it's environs who spoke with SPARKNEWS NAIJA say but for the stay at home, closure of school and churches order of Ondo state government, the casualties would have exceeded hundreds as worshipers would have attended the church's all night program while for the school, hundreds of pupils would have been involved.

Speaking after his on- the- spot assessment of the cause and effect of the explosion, Ondo state Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has directed that the area be cordoned off to allow the explosive ordinance department and bomb squad to extricate the vehicle buried underground because it is unclear if there are still explosives that are yet to be detonated.
