The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission ( EFCC), Kano Zonal office, Tuesday,March 3rd , 2020 arraigned one Asiya Bala Aliyu before Honorable Justice R.A Sadiq of the Kano State High Court on a two count charge of Misappropriation of Funds.
The defendant, Asiya Bala Aliyu, allegedly collected the sum of N36,000,000 (Thirty Six Million Naira) only from one Hadiza Inna Sanusi, under the guise that the said money was investment in Galaxy Investment Package
To the contrary, Asiya Bala Aliyu was said to have misappropriated and or diverted the said money for her personal use.
In one of the charges which read "that you Asiya Bala Aliyu sometime between May and August 2018 with intent to defraud, dishonestly misappropriated the sum of N35,000,000 (Thirty Five Million Naira) only, belonging to one Hadiza Inna Sanusi and you thereby committed an offense contrary to section 308 and punishable under section 309 of the Penal Code Law.“ to whicht the defendant however pleaded not guilty when it was read to her.
While the Prosecution counsel, Musa Isah, asked the court for a trial date in view of the defendant's plea of not guilty,
Counsel representing the defendant, Khalid Kashim Njidda, then applied for a bail application for his client to which Isah opposed thus requesting the court for an adjournment to enable him file a counter affidavit.
Consequently, the defense counsel prayed the court to remand the defendant in EFCC custody, a request which was not granted as the court ordered that she be remanded in the correctional facility.
The matter has however been adjourned to 12th March, 2020 for hearing of the bail application and 19th March, 2020 for commencement of trial.
