The Federal Government has directed that the ongoing national orientation for National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members across the country be brought to a close and subsequently shut its orientation camps nationwide, the Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Sunday Dare announced this in a tweet stressing that Corps members will be paid and asked to go to their place of primary assignments.
"Today across the country, the NYSC Orientation camps will be closed and Youth Corpers will be paid and sent to their places of primary assignment. This again is a precautionary measure on D part of the government to check the spread of COVID-19. The DG NYSC will provide details"
The 2020 Batch A orientation camps opened on the 4th of March and were expected to be closed on the 29th of March.
Meanwhile, The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, said it had planned ahead of the emergency closure of all camps across the country as all processes for the posting of members to the place of their primary assignment has already been completed.
NEWS AGENCY OF NIGERIA(NAN) report say South-West Director of the scheme, Attah Emmanuel, said the scheme rushed the orientation programme over Coronavirus fears.
He said, “We have planned ahead of this time and we have taken the decision to close all camps in the best interest of the nation and that of our corp members as well as staff.
“We rushed through some of the orientation programmes.
“I can confirm to you that all our corp members have been posted to their respective places of primary assignment.”
He revealed further that the directive from the headquarters was for all camps to be closed across the country.
The three-week compulsory orientation course for corp members was abruptly ended by the Federal Government on Wednesday in a bid to curtail the possible spread of Coronavirus
