SOKOTO State government has enjoined it's citizens to adhere strictly to the implementation of all precautionary measures put in place to ward off coronavirus from entering the state, even as the only suspected case in the State had turned out negative.
Declaring in Sokoto, while giving an update on the Covid-19 status of the state, the Commissioner for health, Dr Mohammed Ali Inname, says "the state remains COVID-19 free as no case has been recorded till date"
Dr. Inname disclosed that although the measures so far taken to stem the tide of the raging global Coronavirus Pandemic are harsh, they are not punitive, but aimed at further safeguarding the lives of the citizenry, stressing that "Government will not in any way be complacent to sustain the zero-case status of the state".
The Sokoto State health commissioner said "the measures that had successfully been implemented In the state include the closure of all schools as directed by the North West Governors , others include the ban of entry and exit into the state, ban of all large social gatherings and the directive to workers on Grade level 12 and below to work from their homes, among others, which were employed to minimize the movement and interaction of people, with a view to curbing the menace of the pandemic."
The Commissioner said, “the disease has a fourteen-day incubation period, within which the symptoms can fully manifest,” stressing that a positive person who may not even be aware of his status can infect three other persons and this may lead to subsequent multiplier infections.“Although COVID-19 causes less mortality, yet it can rapidly spread, hence, self-isolation of all suspected cases and quarantines are crucial.”
Dr Inname then enjoined the people to continue to ensure regular hand washing with soaps or sanitizers, cover their mouths when sneezing and minimize social gatherings, as well as cancel all unnecessary ones.
