COVID-19 : EDO STATE ATTORNEY GENERAL IDENTIFIES WITH THE VULNERABLES.

By Mike ALADENIKA.

Moved by the challenges faced in varrious Nigerian homes as occasioned by the near total luckdown directive of government to control the further spread of the dreaded coronavirus pandemic in Edo state, the state Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Professor Yinka Omorogbe has provided foodstuffs and other consumables to no fewer than 300 migrant returnees and the vulnerables in Edo state.

The gesture, according to Prof Omorogbe, is aimed at complementing whatever efforts of government put in place to cushion the efforts of the precautionary measures taken to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic

In a chat with newsmen during the presentation of the materials to the benefitiaries, who came in their twenties, Professor (Mrs) Yinka Omorogbe said she was moved by the many complains of hardship by Nigerians, as a result of the luckdown policy newly introduced by government.

The Edo Attorney General said most of the benefitiaries of the "first phase reach out" are unemployed female migrant returnees who have offered themselves for public service under "the female goal getters scheme", many of whom are not gainfully employed.

Prof. Omorogbe said many Nigerian are not finding things too easy, as many can no longer feed themselves, let alone feeding their dependants. "This is a challenging moment which should not be left for government alone but it is a period when everyone whom God has blessed should help the vulnerables in our midst without seeking political gains or advantage from the situations or challenges faced by fellow Nigerians".

She said  the gesture is her personal  initiative  "with support from  my immediate family and friends as well as my children and their friends as well as other relatives."

“I have been able to send some food items too to some Orphanages that had issues with food security. Of course, you know that all Orphanages exist on charity."

“We have onlo tried to make a difference and I am sure that if all of us tried to do something, somewhere, It will make the world a better place”, she said.

As at the time of filling in this report about 500 aged women from all the wards of Oredo Local Government area of Edo state are been supported with necessary food and household items.
