Edo state governor, Mr Goodwin Obaseki will today, officially resume duties having successfully completed the mandatory self isolation for the identification and treatment of the dreaded coronavirus.
Mr Obaseki proceeded on self isolation haven had contact with the Secretary the the Federal government who had tested positive for the virus.
Although the results of the varrious routine tests carried out on Governor Obaseki came out negative, he had to complete the mandatory self isolation, in line with the treatment procedure for coronavirus.
Meanwhile,Edo State Government has directed the shutdown of markets in the state from Wednesday, April 8, 2020, for the commencement of fumigation of the facilities.
Deputy Governor and Chairman, Edo State COVID-19 Response Technical Committee, Rt. Hon Comrade Philip Shaibu, who disclosed this at a press briefing, said fumigation of the markets would commence from the day of closure.
According to him, "All markets in Edo State are to be shut down effective from Wednesday, April 8, 2020. The state government will undertake the fumigation of the markets from the day of closure."
He added that the markets are to be relocated to designated public primary and secondary schools closest to the markets.
He noted that the government has recommended the use of face masks as a government sanctioned precautionary measures against COVID-19, adding, "We have met with traditional and religious leaders to work out modalities for the implementation of different precautionary measures against COVID-19."
He disclosed that "The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) has been designated as a holding/isolation centre., while Isolation facilities are being made more comfortable for patients, as TV and Air Conditioning (AC) sets have been installed. Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) reports that people are coming for voluntary testing."
