Ondo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, 65, is dead. Reports from government quarters said he died of COVID-19.

According to reports, the late commissioner who was born on June 5, 1955 at Ilara-mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State was said to have developed complications and was rushed to the Federal Medical Center, Owo, where he eventually died.

With the death of the Commissioner of health, there is palpable fear in government circle in Ondo state as the wife of the State Governor, Betty Akeredolu is reported to have tested positive to the dreaded coronavirus.

No fewer than Five legislators in Ondo State House of Assembly and about Six Members of State cabinet have also tested positive for Covid-19.

According to Vanguard Newspaper, the result of Mrs. Akeredolu’s test came back positive, days after her husband announced his COVID-19 status to be positive.

Meanwhile, the test results of some Commissioners and Special Advisers are yet to be released with tension already heightening in the state’s corridors of power.

Members of the Ondo House of Assembly are said to have expressed their fears after being asked to go for COVID-19 tests. Many of them, reports say, accompanied the governor of the state to Abuja where he went to pick his expression of interest and nomination forms for the governorship primaries of the APC in the state.

Reports also say the Governor and his followers did not follow COVID-19 guidelines as they sang, danced and posed for pictures without masks nor physical distancing, while in Abuja.

It is however not clear what the outcome of the results would be, but many are saying that Ondo State may likely enter a new phase of total luckdown to curtail the further spread of the pandemic even as the Federal government perfect plans to open up the country.
