CRIME : EDO ATTORNEY- GENERAL SEEKS FRESH POLICE INVESTIGATIONS INTO ALLEGED BATTERING AND ASSAULT OF BECKY SOLO.

Edo State Attorney general and Commissioner of justice, Prof. Yinka Omorogbe has written to the Commissioner of police,Edo State Command, seeking a proper and detailed investigations into an allegation of wife battering and assault of one, Becky Solo by her husband,Osamudiamen Odia Okunogae in Benin City.
In a letter dated, 17th August, 2020, the Edo state Commissioner of Justice requested the police Commissioner to direct a re- investigation into the matter as the initial investigation " seems compromised" by the investigation team at the State command of the police force.
Prof. Omorogbe alleged that the report of the investigating Officers at the State command was at variant with that of the originating police station, ugbor police station, Benin, thus indicating a high degree of compromise at that level.
The Edo Attorney General also opined that the investigation Lacks eye witness account, exhibit(s) not indicated among other flaws thus requesting for a proper investigation to occasion a proper advice and possible prosecution of the accused.
SPARKNEWSNAIJA reliably gathered that the Attorney General had on the ....... written to the Commissioner of Police indicating the intention of her office to take over the case, a request which was not obliged until the investigating police officer "hurriedly arrained the accused in a magistrate court in Benin."
The representative of the state Ministry of Justice, Senior State Counsel, Mrs Evelyn Okhuorobo, presented the application letter signed by Prof. Omorogbe to the court to take over the case from the Commissioner of Police.
Although the presiding Magistrate had granted the defendant bail after he pleaded not guilty to the three count charge, bothering on assault, causing of harm and unlawful damage of complaints phone preferred against him.
The defendant on July 26, at Amagba community in Benin City, was alleged to have driven his Mercedes ML Jeep recklessly to hit his wife, thereby causing her harm and also slapped her.
The offence contravenes Sections 355, 351, and 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 48, Vol. 11, Law of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, now applicable in Edo.
