The candidate of the All Progressives Congress APC and the Incumbent governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, has been declared the winner of Saturday’s governorship election in the state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) formally declared Akeredolu the winner of the election and was subsequently returned elected after defeating the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede; Deputy Governor of the state and candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Agboola Ajayi, and 14 other candidates.
INEC's Chief Returning Officer for the election, Professor Idowu Olayinka, said “Having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes, I hereby declare Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu of the APC as the winner, and he is hereby returned elected."
The governor secured a total of 292,830 votes while Jegede garnered 195,791 votes. Ajayi came a distant third with 69,127 votes.
With this victory at the polls, Gov. Akeredolu has gotten the mandate of Ondo state's Electorates for a second term of four years as governor of Ondo State.
