The first private University in Nigeria, IGBINEDION UNIVERSITY OKADA had it's 18th convocation ceremony, Saturday 28th November, 2020 at it's multipurpose auditorium in Okada in line with NCDC protocol on Covid-19 pandemic.
Addressing the graduands and guests, the Chancellor of the University and ESAMA of Benin, Sir Chief(Dr.) Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion said the intention of establishing the University has been achieved as Nigerian youths can now go to school and graduate on schedule without unnecessary delay.
According to Chief Igbinedion, with required foresight, the Igbinedion University Okada did not loose a minute of time during the Covid-19 pandemic and it's aftermath even as many institutions and individuals suffered greatly which translated into our children and wards graduating on record time.
The Chancellor, Igbinedion University, University said the institution is "currently addressing a critical phase of our national life by building capacity through entrepreneurship. The idea is to ensure that every graduate of this University is trained on skill that would make him or her self-reliant and ultimately become an employer of labour, an academic area in which we blaze the trail".
Chief Gabriel Igbinedion however said that "despite the non ranking of Nigeria University in the global top 500, a situation that is not good for the country, the board of Regents is committed to ensuring that Igbinedion University is within the top ten Universities in Africa"
In his welcome address and presentation of the University's report card, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye said the University's "Quality Educational Service Delivery" is unparalleled as "we have built a virile University community where Knowledge Exchange and Entrepreneurship is supreme" stressing that "our University is responsive to the demands for quality education and inadequacies in placement opportunities,and have accordingly expanded it's programme base at both the undergraduate and post graduate programmes."
According to Prof Lawrence Ezemonye, the University has, since inception, graduated over Fifteen Thousand students with 618 graduating today, out of which 16 made a first class 177 second class upper, 271 second class lower, 36 PHD and 34 M.sc.
