By Mike ALADENIKA.
Psychiatric challenges are not too devastating to manage but for the perception of the society on the patients.
This is the informed position of a first class psychiatrist and Chief Medical Director, USELU PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL, Benin City, Dr. IMAFIDON O AGBONILE at a media interactive session in Benin.
Dr. Agbonile who was appointed the CMD in October 2020 said "there is nothing special about psychiatric challenges, as almost every human being do have an atom of the challenge but the extreme is the one that may now demand medicare."
According to Dr Agbonile, "there are other medical challenges that are more severe in management than mental, many patients who were managed under such sever ailments may have died while those with mental or psychiatric difficulties are still alive and doing well".
On the management of the USELU PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL, the new CMD said he has a "vision to transform the hospital to being one of the best, if not the best, Medical facility in Nigeria despite whatever challenges the hospital may be facing".
Dr. Imafidon Agbonile said "from my experience as a medical practitioner of over twenty years in this hospital and having been in the management team for sometime now, I know a greater percentage of the problems the institution and it's staff are facing and as such have designed a short term, Medium term, and long term solutions to these problems with a view to all the militating challenges facing the hospital".
"My colleagues and I have formed a formidable team to take the hospital to the next level as we have all agreed to make things work while the management will also be responsible to it's obligations to it's staff" said Dr. Agbonile.
