WE WILL MAKE THE NEURO PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL, BENIN, ONE OF THE BEST IN NIGERIA . . . Dr. Imafidon Agbonile.

By Mike ALADENIKA

The Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital, Benin, popularly called USELU PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL is  set to reclaim it's leading position among psychiatric care givers in Nigeria as plans are on the way to reposition the health institution.

The newly appointed  Medical Director of the Neuro Psychiatry Hospital Benin, Dr  Imafidon Agbonile who made this known in Benin City while chatting with newsmen,  said "although the hospital is faced with daunting challenges, the resolution of the management and staff to take the hospital to the next level is an asset."

While  identifying the running of two hospital complexes  as one of the major challenges facing the management, in a situation of dwindling resources, the Medical Director said "the short term, Medium term and long term projection will certainly put the hospital through".

Dr. Imafidon however Promised to make the hospital's rebuilding efforts a collective one rather than individual, he observed that the hospital's management is saddled with the onerous task of running a dual site with its attendant duplicity in waste management, disposal bills, overhead expenditures among  others.

Noting the idea of a dual site grew out of the fact that the original site of the hospital at Uselu, which started as a clinic at inception, could no longer cope with patients traffic and staff

He said  "construction work on the new site, which is meant to serve as permanent site, has been ongoing for over 10 years with an appreciable number of structures on ground to show for the level of government commitment to its completion"

According to Dr Imafidon, "the permanent site is presently being put into effective use pending the completion of construction works and final movement of the hospital.

He said, "We are on a tight rope as things stand. Running a dual site means double overheads on virtually every area of hospital management. Very soon, we are hopeful that we would streamline our costs and make some savings once the hospital moves to its permanent site".
