GOVERNANCE : EDO GOVERNMENT EVOLVES TECHNOLOGY MODEL TO REVENUE DRIVE, PARTNERS PAYMENT TRACKER EXPERTS.
By Mike ALADENIKA
In it's attempt to checkmate corruption and block leakages in the state's revenue administration value chain, Edo State government has partnered with a Nigerian Tracology tracking device company, with a view to driving e-governance in the state.
In a chat with journalists in Benin, the Managing Director of Tracology, Mr. Emmanuel Okena, said his firm partnered with Edo State Government on the installation of QR-code to enable payment tracking tools in houses in Edo State to improve accountability and block leakages in the state’s revenue administration value chain.
Okena, said that the Tracology tracking device, patented in Nigeria, affords the state government the opportunity to actualize its drive for e-governance, noting that the deployment of the solution by the waste management board has proved that the technology was reliable and ready for mass deployment.
According to him, “We are a start-up that has perfected a technology for tracking payments and service delivery, especially by government agencies. With this, we install bar-code enabled metal chips on houses fitted with property identification numbers and help the government in monitoring payments and services rendered. This makes for accountability and probity.”
He said the device has been installed in the Ogbe Quarters axis of Benin City, where over 1000 houses, who are customers of agents of the Edo State Waste Management Board, have been enrolled on the platform.
He added that the firm is looking to expand its reach across the state and is partnering with the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA) of the state and the revenue agency to ensure a roll out of the scheme to help the government in tracking its revenue.
