COVID-19 : EDO STATE GOVERNMENT BEGINS SENSITISATION AND ENFORCEMENT PROCESS FOR COMPLIANCE . . . Warns enforcers to be civil and shun corruption.

As the second wave of Covid-19 ravage the world, Edo state government is embarking on a proactive check of the spread of the dreaded disease as it engages hundreds of enforcers comprising the special constabulary police, volunteers of the Public Works Volunteer scheme and other relevant agencies.

These enforcers are to,  sensitize citizens on the dangers and intensity of the pandemic before fully embarking on lawful arrest and prosection of offenders. 

Addressing members of the Public Works Volunteer scheme (PUWOV) who are part of the enforcement team, PUWOV state coordinator, Mukhtar Yusuf-Osagie said governor Godwin Obaseki is poised to save Edo people from the effects of the pandemic. 

Mukhtar Yusuf-Osagie said  the second wave of the COVID-19 is more devastating than the first and as such more precautions needed to be taken, stressing that  for the state government to have criminalized non compliance with Covid-19 protocol is the height of it's positive disposition.

The PUWOV boss told the volunteers that they must be civil with the citizens in the discharge of their duties as enforcers as their actions and inactions will be subject to regular review every Ten days, stressing that before any citizen could be arrested, the enforcer must establish that the offender did commit the said offence. 

While on public enlightenment at the varrious markets and parks in Oredo, Egor and IKPOBA-OKHA Local Government Areas, Mukhtar Yusuf-Osagie and his team educated the citizens about the dreaded second wave of Covid-19.

He warned traders and drivers alike that should they attend to or carry a passenger without a face mask, the driver/ trader will be prosecuted alongside their clients. 

The PUWOV boss said there may be need for the state government to establish more Mobile courts if the existing ones are overstressed, warning that enforcement will be strict after this period of Grace and enlightenment.
