By Mike ALADENIKA

The University of BENIN been a federal institution based in Edo State was expected to open it's gates for regular academic exercise as directed by the Federal Government that all schools should resume on the 18th of January,2020 but contrarily the institution continued to have it's gates shot in line with the directives of Edo state government.

In a statement issued in Benin City by the University's acting Registrar,
Mr C. Ehigiator, said  "the management of the University acknowledged the sacrifice made by both the students and their parents during the COVID-19 pandemic".

The  statement further said the  "University as a Federal Institution, located in Benin City, must adhere to all directives of the Edo State Government. The Governor's   postponement of Schools resumption from the 18th of January, 2021 which will be reviewed on the 1st of February, 202" Is binding on us too as citizens resident in the state.

The acting Registrar however directed the  Students of the University of Benin,to still stay away from the campuses as they await further directive from the State Government, u are not "expected in the halls of residence on the 30th of January nor be present physically on the 1st of February, 2021"

As we the  Management awaits a new Edo State Government’s  directive, "the Academic Calendar of the University remains unchanged as on-line classes will fully commence.

"The University’s Management is committed to ensuring the provision of quality education to our own dear students without compromising on our collective safety. Management also recognises that students are eager to return to school for their academic activities and  assures that all things possible are being done to actualise that objective as the interest of the students remains paramount.
