OBA OF BENIN APPROVES INTERIM ELDERS COUNCIL TO NOMINATE ACTING PRIEST FOR HOLY ARUOSA.

By Mike ALADENIKA

Oba of Benin, Oba Eware II, has approved the Constitution of an interim Elders Council that will nominate  an Ohenosa (Priest) for the Holy Arousa Cathedral of Benin, also known as Benin National Church.

A statement signed by the secretary, Benin Traditional Council, Mr Frank Irabor, on Tuesday in Benin, said the approval of the elders council  is to expedite the opening of the church which has hitherto been closed for reorganization as a result of removal of the former Ohenosa, Mr Harrison Okao.
According to the statement, "Oba of Benin has approved an interim Elders'  Council to be headed by Chief Norense Ozigbo-Esere (Osuma) as Chairman, and Chief Omoregie Obamwonyi (Esere) as Vice-Chairman.
Others members are Chief Ekhorovbiye Oviasogie (Eribo) and Chief Edionwe Oliha (Oliha).

The statement also said "The Benin Traditional Council has been directed to announce the dissolution of the Elders Council headed by the acting Chairman, Chief Jackson Igbinovia (Osagiobariase)."

You will recall that former Priest, Mr Okao, was removed as the Ohenosa last week Thursday.
The removal followed the recommendation by Elders Committee of the Cathedral and senior chiefs of the palace.

It was added that the removal was predicated upon long-standing and lingering breaches over the years by Mr Okao pertaining to the age-old custom and traditions as Ohenosa at the Cathedral.
