TWO STUDENTS DIE, 70 AFFECTED AS GASTROENTERITIS RAVAGES GOVERNMENT GIRLS COLLEGE SOKOTO

No fewer than two students of Government Girls College Sokoto have reportedly died in the recent out break of Gastroenteritis infection while another 70 students were said to have been infected in with the disease.

Sokoto state Commissioner for Science and Technology, Dr. Kulu Haruna, who disclosed this In a Press Conference said "the School has been closed while 20 students are currently at isolation center to prevent spreading the disease in the state.

The commissioner  also revealed that the incident which stated from March 24 2021 informed government's  decission to take the infected students to the hospital for adequate treatment.

Dr. Lulu used the occasion to dismiss rumours, in some quarters, that the outbreak was caused as a result of congestion because of the relocation of many of the students from  the border communities as a result of Bandits nerferous activities.

Dr. Kulu also refuted the insunuation  that the school has poor sanitary and water supply system, stressing that no borehole is unhealthy or had salted water.

The Commissioner rather commended SOKOTO state governor,  Rt. Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal   for his immediate response to the problem, as well as the prompt deployment of more medical and auxiliary health workers  to handle  the out break in the state.

Dr. Kulju stated that no teacher was affected and the school was shut to prevent spread and be able to properly appraise the situation.
