IBOS ARE FREE TO GO, IF . . . NORTHERN ELDERS FORUM.

By Mike ALADENIKA.

As tensions and insecurity are fast taking over Nigerian landscape unchecked, the Northern Elders Forum, (NEF) has given a nord to the percieved quest of the South-eastern Nigeria to secceed from the Nation called Nigeria.

The NEF which is the umbrella body of Northern Nigeria elite said at a press briefing addressed by it's Director of Publicity and advocacy, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, monitored on channelstvonline, that "having reviewed events and tendencies which suggest that the country is headed for more crisis as most Nigerians now live in fear of violence today and in fear of uncertain future."

The NEF said "the capacity of the Nigerian state to secure it's citizens or protect the country's territorial integrity and resist violent assaults on our unity is weakening to the level of making threats that have no impact."

The Northern Elders Forum said "armed criminals of all types have increased their audacious stronghold over our lives in all parts of the country, stressing that the security signals emanating from the south east with a particular reference to the activities of IPOB and ESN is worrisome to Nigerians".

More worrisome, however, is "the muted voices of millions of ibos that could not be heard so that Nigerians can understand the degree to which seccesion by the ibos represent their popular choice"
Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, said "Nigeria has fought a civil war in which the North adequately paid it's dues all with the sole intention to keep Nigeria one."

The Director of Publicity and advocacy,NEF, then said "under our current circumstances, no Nigerian should welcome another war to keep this country together, as the North, in particular has more than enough challenges, we recognize that violent seccesion by any part of Nigeria would compound the problems of all Nigerians under which we live"

The Northern Elders Forum then "arrived at a very difficult conclusion that, if the support for the seccesion among the ibos is as widespread as it is been made to look, and ibo leadership appears to be in support of it, then the country should be advised not to stand in its ways. As it will not help a country already bourdened with failures on it's kneels to fight another war aimed at keeping the ibos in Nigeria"
