OPINION : AZIEGBEMI'S SUSPENSION AND THE IMPERSONATION OF OMAGBON, LET'S GIVE PEACE A CHANCE . . . the need to seek peace and unity as the interest of the party surpasses that of a few.

By  Comrade Mike O. Enahoro

Only a few weeks ago that I read from the Edo State PDP Publicity Secretary about the illegality of suspensions of some party LGA Chairmen (Etsako Central and Egor) and some highly placed personalities (Chief Tom Ikimi and Chief Mike Ogiadomhen etc) that, the action perpetuated by some aggrieved persons were null and void because it's unknown to the Constitution of the People's Democratic Party.

 As a PDP enthusiast and amongst highly committed stakeholders and very concerned about how our party can make better progress, I joined to hail the excellent thought process of the members of the State Working Committee as it were.

It was shocking for me to read from the same Publicity Secretary that, they (SWC) have set up an investigation committee to look into an allegation against the State Chairman Dr. Tony Aziegbemi and alleged being suspended for a week and now extended for two weeks for Hon. Harrison Omagbon to be Acting.

Initially, I thought they will discuss as friends, sort out themselves whatever might have caused the joke, and come out stronger as a team in less than a week. As a matter of fact, I actually considered them as mature jokers because their action is not only unconstitutional but added criminality to it by the impersonation stuff.

As a concerned party member who is very disturbed by their action, I have met with the people involved to find out exactly what happened. When I got the details, I felt ashamed that those representing us are being turned to Higher Institution Students' Union Leaders who are made to fight themselves with information leaking strategy. More painfully is, the lack of maturity in handling the imbroglio; the action taken, and the unnecessary publicity leading to washing of dirty hands in the public.

It is also important to note that, apart from the fact that the Investigation Committee and suspension are unknown to our party Constitution, we cannot accept the Chairman to subject himself to the committee or to assume the suspension truly exist for the following reasons;
1-These same people can wake up tomorrow to say, they have suspended our Governor or Deputy Governor or Members of the National Assembly from our party knowing too well, they all have the same party immunity clause as members of the National Executive Committee just as the State Chairman on a matter of discipline.
2-No matter the situation, we will not accept the Chairman to set a bad precedence. Anyone can be State Chairman tomorrow, we will not accept any reference point that the SWC once suspended the State Chairman. It is unconstitutional and cannot be accepted by we concerned PDP members.

I strongly believe that this matter is not above the solution amongst the members of the SWC. They can pally it out and become a stronger team. The truth is, lessons have been learned. As we continue to appeal to all to seek peace and unity, let us understand that we concerned members of the party understand how important and useful it is to tow the part of peace.
 Again, I want to plead with all not to stress this matter further or to reach the point of Concerned members approaching the court to determine the legality of the action and the reason for the impersonation knowing too well that the alleged allegation cannot pass any litigation process against any person.

I want to therefore suggest to those angry for any reason to get smarter and be wiser. As a team, you guys can be better. Errors have been made, lessons have been learned. I have a strong conviction that, all those involved will now turn into better leaders and managers.

Any person expecting the Chairman to subject himself to any Committee set up by SWC on this matter will wait till forever. And if you cannot sort out yourselves, it might be necessary that you guys report yourselves to our father, our Daddy, the Esama of the Universe.

 That is to say, if the late political icon, Chief Tony Anenih is gone, we still have Chief Gabriel Igbinedion on ground. Let's give honour to who honour is due. Luckily, I think, our Daddy is around. With the likes of other wise men in the persons of Distinguished Sen. Odion Ugbesia from Edo Central and maybe, Sen. Yisa Braimah or Sen. Victor Oyofoh from Edo North who are not interested parties in the centre matter and are not wishing to eye any political position in future, I strongly believe, this matter can be handled by our great Daddy, Chief Gabriel Igbinedion.

These three wise men are going to do justice so the Edo PDP wahala can come to an end. Yes, having followed Distinguished Sen. Victor Oyofoh's articles and activities of our very Elder Odion Magnus Ugbesia, I strongly believe that, the interest of our party is going to be their concern. They have the capacity to talk to anyone from up to down so, We Can Give Peace A Chance.
