HEALTH CARE : TRADITIONAL ORTHOPEDICS MORE POTENT TILL DATE. . . Chief David Adaa.

Many, today have had their hands and legs amputated due to minor or  severe fracture of the bones which Western medication have not been able to find solutions to.

But to the Ovienzowoba  of Benin Kingdom, Chief (Dr.) David Adaa Ekhoutomwen traditional  orthopedics also known as traditional bone setting have saved many from these eventual amputation from the days of our father till date.

Though a professional accountant, Chief Ekhoutomwen said "the use of herbial medicine to set or re-arrange the bones of those who had accidents  in whatever manner also help to keep the traditional ways of  bone setting.

Chief Ekhoutomwen, who is the Chief Executive Officer, Benin Traditional Bone Setting Centre, Benin city, said, traditional bone setting is residual in his ancestral home as  his forefathers trained him in the art.

" I have been in this bone setting trade from childhood. I am 81 years old now, my forefathers taught me how to use herbial medicine to treat people with broken Bones.


" As long as   people will be  involved in accidents daily, there must be a place where they  can be treated  with herbal medicine and bone setting technics. The need to serve humanity, to keep and sustain the traditional, that is my motivation spirit.

" This is a trade that have been in our family lineage for many years, from my great, great grand fathers to my father, and to me. "

Speaking on the successes and gains that he had recorded in the business so far, Chief Ekhoutomwen said:" the secret of the success of the trade is good work for your patients and customers. It is good work that sustain the business since it inception."

" Most of our patients that come, especially those that came form outside the state,our charges are moderate, If you give them high price, they cannot afford it, they will go, many of them don't have fund and may die in pains.

Commenting on how they source their herbal materials, Chief Ekhoutomwen, said:" at times, we go to the bush to source for the herbal materials we use in the treatment of our patients.

"The herbs that we cannot get from the bush, we buy them in the markets. We pound those herbs together, and used it to treat those who broke their legs and hands.

" When those that we treat are better, they go home and tell others the good news. When the bones are scattered or are multiple fractured, we used our fingers as  x-rays to re-arranged the broken bones."

Chief Ekhoutomwen, who retired as a Chief Auditor, said, "the advance in technological development has led to  increament in accidents and injuries sustained by people which ironically brings more patronage to us.

He however appealed to government and other stakeholders in the health sector to support them with relevant equipments.

In his own comment, the Resident Doctor of the Benin Traditional Bone Setting Centre, Benin City, Edo state, Dr. Louis Adaa Aimuamwosa, pleaded with government at all levels and well meaning individuals to come to their aid by helping them to get more bed-spaces, cluches for patients and other facilities.

More so, in an interview with some patients at the Benin Traditional  Bone Setting Centre, the patient expressed happiness about the quick recovery process of their health since the came to the Centre.

For Mr. Friday Omokaro, a 47 years old commerical driver, with three children who had an accident on his way from Benin to Iguobazuwa in Ovia South West local area of Edo state recently, he has been receiving treatment in the Centre since a month and two weeks.

He expressed happiness about the quick recovery as he can now walk with cluches at present.

To Mrs. Flourish a 65 years old woman , from  Orlu in Imo state, sa her children who reside in Benin city, brought her to the treatment Centre. She said, she came to the Centre three weeks and some days ago. She thanked God that she is  improving now.
