EDO ABATTOIR CRISIS : BUTCHERS PROTEST HARASSEMENT BY OBASEKI'S AID.

BY MIKE ALADENIKA.

The crisis rocking the varrious abattoirs in Edo State took a different dimension today as members of the state Butchers Association embarked on a peaceful protest against what they termed "undue meddlesome, and use of brutal force on members by the current leadership of our association backed by an aid of Edo state government."

According to the protesting butchers "our members are been subjected to undue harassment from the chairman of the union, Akhere Odigie, with the  backing of the Special adviser to the governor on Security Matters , CSP Yesuf Haruna rtd".

The butchers who matched through the King's square to the Nigeria of Journalists, NUJ Press Centre, in Benin City, said, "CSP Haruna Yusuf (Rtd), is currently  giving backing  to one Akhere Odigie who they alleged has been giving them unnecessary Harassement.

In a protest march led by  Comrade Sunny Omokaro, a former chairman of the state butchers association, they accused CSP Yusuf  Haruna of being the backbone of the troublesome Odigie who at any slight opportunity threaten them with bodily harm.

The protesters went further to allege that Odigie has consistently boasted of having the backing of CSP Yusuf Haruna and thus he is beyond reproach.

The Butchers then called on the state governor , Godwin Obaseki to look into the running of the union with a view to enthroning a democratically elected leadership for the union.

In his own reaction, the Special adviser to the governor on Security Matters , CSP Yesuf Haruna rtd denied whatever involvement, as alleged by the protesters.

CSP Yusuf Haruna (rtd), called on journalists to disregard the allegations as " I have no personal or official interest in their matter, except if any of their members is involved in any criminal activity".

"By the dictate of my office and rule of engagement, we are on top of the security challenges in the state and as such, no one should draw my person or Office to their union matters".

"As far as am concerned the protesters are faceless and are only out to gain undue recognition  by associating him with their internal problems in which he has not played any role," Yusuf said.
