The Federal Government has uncovered, within the fuel supply chain in Nigeria, an unspecified amount of Premium Motor Spirit(PMS) aka petrol with Methanol qualities above Nigeria's specification.
According to a release issued by Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) on the 8th, February, 2022, methanol as a regular addictive in Petro is usually blended to an acceptable quantity but the product uncovered has a higher component of Methanol beyond Nigeria's recommended standard.
NMDPRA also disclosed that "the limited quantity of the impacted product has been isolated and withdrawn from the market, including the loaded trucks in transit".
The NMDPRA statement however aleyed possible fear that "our technical team in conjunction with NNPC LTD and other industry stakeholders will continue to monitor and ensure quality Petroleum product are adequately supplied and distributed Nationwide.
