WE WILL NOT BE PART OF YOUR ILLEGALITY. . . APC tackles Edo state government on Local Government election.

As the Governor Godwin OBASEKI led Edo state government warms up for the conduct of the Local Government election in the state, the main opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has cried foul for the modalities to be adopted in the process leading to the election. 

Addressing newsmen in Benin City, Tuesday, the APC State publicity Secretary, Bar.  Peter Uwadiae said "the process for the conduct of the proposed local government election is fraudulent and not acceptable to any right thinking Democrat".

" Our Noble party, the APC, being People focused will not betray our people to be part of this illegality as we will not be  participating in the  proposed  local government elections  scheduled to hold on the 19th of April 2022".

According to publicity Secretary everything tends  to be wrong about the election in terms of funding, Time frame and legality of it's conduct.  

On funding, APC  spokesperson said "there's is no budgetary allocation for the conduct of the election in the state's 2022 appropriation."

APC also queried the logic behind  the amendment of the electoral law by the legislative arm to reduced the number of days for campaign as enshrined in the electoral act.

" Not only that the Edo state House of Assembly lacks required numbers to amend the section of the electoral law, the fact that  there is a conflict between state electoral law and electoral act, is indicative of the fact that the state law is null and void."

The APC spokesperson said "however, we are studying the situation and we will respond accordingly". 

 Edo state government recently inagurared the election umpire, Edo State Independent Election Commission, EDSIES, for the conduct of the  Local Government Election.
