Nigeria must be situated in today’s context, if we must best understand who is fit and proper to be the Man of The Moment in 2023.
There is so much disillusionment in the land occasioned by the utter lack of governance, shown in the seeming laid back attitude of the Federal government, the descent of some 90 million into poverty, which has classified us as the world’s poverty capital, non expansive economy, which now means massive unemployment. Add to all that amount of woes, is the Northern States being a constant killing field with no one authority being accountable or acting in concert to end the unabated mayhem and massive massacre of unarmed populace in the rural areas, the new occupation of banditry, the utter breakdown of security in the Eastern part of the country, the poverty and false gospel of prosperity and constant wealth that is inducing ritual and voodoo killings especially in the South West, the infestation of banditry and slight genocidal killing in the southern part of the country, the porous borders and the totally unsecure Nation given to the collusion and compromise of some members of security agencies, corruption of an unprecedented levels, even at the highest level of State all have caused concerned citizens to appropriately designate today’s Nigeria as a Failed State.
There can be no pretence about it. We have slided beyond the Nigeria of 1950. The mission for rescue can only lie on the shoulders of an individual who can fulfill the four cardinal requirements delineated by Osondu Ahirika in 2021, to which I will add other parameters of my own, who can make the cut of being the President in 2023 must be seen to fulfill the following eight criteria:
Nation Building Capacity
Foreign Affairs Quotient
Economic Management Capability
National Security Management Capacity
Character
Requisite Leadership Skills
A Wealth Creator
Highly Academic, Competent, Exemplary and a man, untainted and has a personal successful life story,
Nation Building Capacity.
Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina is a well known team player from the days he emerged on the national scene in the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and right up to the end of his tenure then.
In his tenure as the President of AFDB, he maintained that style of governance and management. It was not a surprise that he could win a second term at the Development Bank.
In a Nation wracked by nepotism of a kind never seen in Nigeria, since 1860, only a team player and consensus builder and a good finder like Dr. Adesina can pull us all together.
Development is impossible without a unanimity of hearts and purpose, and the man we seek to endorse, knows it deep in his soul that it is a sine qua non, if the Nation must cohere and thrive, as we have suffered enough centrifugal thugs at the seams.
The APC as a party is internally wracked. Only a consensus seeker can mend the party and the Nation.
FOREIGN AFFAIRS QUOTIENT
There was a time, Nigeria mattered in the comity of Nations. Not any more. Having played in the National pool and at a locus of Africa International Space, who best to bring Africa to Nigeria and take Nigeria to Africa, more so in this age of AfCFTA, the African Continental Wide Market. Our new-wealth and possibilities are within consolidation within the African Continent.
Dr. Adesina Akinwumi has bestrode the continent, linking with Heads of State and in an inter African Co-operation, has dealt with multilateral bodies and agencies.
When he gets elected, post nomination, we are certain we would have found our “mojo” and right rhythm to plan on the global scene, using Africa as a stepping stone. Knowing foreign Heads of States, and being on a first name basis, building trust and friendship, we can certainly say, we found the right man for the job of Presidency post 2023.
ECONOMIC MANAGEMENT
When he was in Nigeria, as the Minister of Agriculture, of course, on a comparative basis, he had a small budget to contend with. At the AFDB level, it was a large stretch. Prudence, knowledge and discipline was what enabled him to be relevant to all of Africa. And even as he is winding down in his second tenure, he is not letting up in developing new vistas for all of Africa. It is was his acumen and unusual skills of Development programs management that got him misunderstood on his first tenure that a scandal was floated wrongly against him, by those who wanted to stall his trajectory to success. In the end, success over his false traducers, he did.
We now want him at home, given the mis-governance and mismanagement of our national economy. This is where his untainted antecedents, prudence in managing AFDB funds, and his cognate strategies will be surely needed to make Nigeria great again.
No wonder, foreign universities in the United States and other foreign institutions have been pilling recognitions on a worthy son of Nigeria. Why should we not clamour for the best, Dr Akinwunmi Adesina?
