A frontline Educationalist, philanthropist and politician, Bar. Ken Imasuagbon has been elected as the National Delegate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State, at a well conducted and attended Congress conducted on Tuesday, the 10th of May, 2022.
Barrister Imansuangbon, whose election was unprecedented and overwhelming scored 156 votes to defeat his arch rival Giwa Agbonmere who scored just only 50 votes.
The election process, which was slated to commence as early as 8am, was delayed till 2pm to give room for the resolution of some seeming grey areas, Eventually, the process commenced after the third attempt whereby two sets of officials were rejected by one of the parties one after the other.
The accreditation of the delegates from the recognised ten wards, statutory delegates and the likes went without much ado. It was the voting process that was heralded with loud contestation from one of the parties.
The presiding officer, Edgar Atonigbe, did a count of the votes for Barrister Imansuangbon which was 156 out of the 206 delegates screened as qualified for the voting process.
Speaking shortly after his election as Esan South East Local Government Area of Edo State national delegate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) urged PDP members across the country to take advantage of the failures of the All Progressives Congress to secure a landslide victory at the polls.
Imasuangbon told Nigerians to punish the APC with their votes for bringing hunger, deaths, high cost of living in the past eight years.
He said it was irresponsible of some political appointees to remain in office while seeking elective offices.
According to the statement, "This is the time for the PDP to be united. We cannot allow ourselves to be blinded by individual ambition to lose the bigger fish which is getting the party back to the villa.
"Nigerians are tired of the APC. The failure of the APC across all sectors is a pointer to the fact that we need unity in the PDP.
"I am calling on all APC political appointees to resign immediately including. Their continuous stay in office against dictates of the electoral act and an insult to the generality of Nigerians."
Some analysts in their review of the election see it as a positive test for Barrister Imansuangbon's aspiration to govern the state come 2024.
