A section of Nigerian women, cutting across political lineages, converged on Benin City, Wednesday to pledge their support for the BOLA TINUBU / SHETTIMA presidential project at a women summit organized by APC's Deputy National Treasurer, Hon. Omorede Osifo Marshal in conjunction with Tinubu Mandate Coalition.
Addressing the summit, a former lawmaker in Edo state and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bar. Patrick Obahiagbon, called on Nigerian women to brace up and become the foot-soldiers, "political Jehovah witnesses and protestants" for Bola Tinubu's presidential ambition, saying he stands shoulders higher above all other presidential candidates.
Obahiagbon, who chaired the submit with the theme:"The Role of Women in the Upcoming 2023 Elections" said it was held with the view to tell Nigerians the philosophy and achievements of the APC presidential candidate, adding that Tinubu has made a lot of sacrifice for the survival of democracy, hence he deserves the number one position.
"When Rome was burning, where were those who are in the political field today? When the symbol of democracy, Chief Moshood Kasimawo Abiola, was murdered by the state, and when the voice of the people was murdered by the military, we had one man who stood and made himself available. He made great sacrifice, gathered pro-democracy force to stand against military oppression. He stood against military oppression to an extent that he had to go on exile.
"Tinubu sacrifices his finances to pursue pro-democracy course. That is the man that is most qualified among all the presidential aspirants. A man who struggled for democracy, a man who gave his life for democratic course.
According to him, a man like Tinubu who turned the fortune of Lagos economy around within eight years is the type of man Nigeria needs at this period of economic crisis.
"He has had the privilege to serve as a governor of Lagos State. Before he became governor of Lagos State, the state was like a slum, Lagos State was the dirtiest capital city in the whole world, but as soon as he became governor, we saw how he turned Lagos State around.
"How much was IGR of Lagos State, about N600m, but through his political and financial engineering, the IGR of Lagos today is about N600bn. Giving the economic problems we have today, this is the kind of man we need. With his financial engineering, Nigeria economy with get back on track," he said.
Earlier, in her address of welcome, the convener of the submit, Hon.Omorede Osifo Marshal said the purpose was to bring people of likes mind together so that they can all take the Tinubu's message to the nooks and crannies of Edo State.
On her part, APC national woman leader, Dr. Beta Edu who was represented by APC National Ex-Officio, South-West zone, Hon. Olubunmi Orinowo, urged women to mobilize for Tinubu.
"No better person than Tinubu; Asiwaju is for women, he is the best candidate for the job," she added.
In his speech, founder, Tinubu Women and Children Foundation, Prince Adamu Ahmed, said Tinubu would do justice to women's right if given the opportunity to be president.
"These rights can only be actualised when you have majority of you in leadership. At this junction, I want to assure you that the man who has never been silent in women advocacy and inclusion in governance will do justice the 35 per cent affirmative action and other privileges," he said.
