BREAKING : NBC SHUT DEFAULTING MEDIA HOUSES, WITHDRAWS LICENSES OF STATIONS.

The National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, has revoked the broadcast licenses of some media houses in Nigeria with a 24 hours directive to shot down operations, stations and remain  off air until proper regularisation is perfected.

According to a media statement issued by the commission, NBC, said it has published, in National dailies "the list of licences that are indebted to the commission, and granted them two weeks to renew their licenses and pay their debts or consider their licences revoked".

" Three months after the publication, some licences are yet to pay their outstanding debts, in contravention of the NBC Act CAP N11, law of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, particularly section 10(a) of the third schedule of the Act"

In a similar letter addressed to the Director General, Department of State Services, Abuja and signed by the Director General, NBC, BALARABE SHEHU ILELAH, the commission sought to inform and seek the support of the DSS to ensure enforcement.

The NBC DG said the affected stations are currently operating illegally in the country, an action which has adverse security implications.

The affected broadcast media houses include DAAR COMMUNICATIONS, owners of AIT/Ray power FM, SILVER BIRD TV, RHYTHM FM among others.
