The Edo State chapter of the Labour Party, LP, has cleared the air about the candidacy of Edo State former Speaker Hon. (Mrs.) Elizabeth Ativie whom the Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) has declared as the flagbearer for Orhionmwon Uhunmwode federal Constituency in the forthcoming 2023 elections.
This among other positions of the party was at the front burner during a media parlay in benin where the party in Edo state refuted the allegation raised in some quarters that national chairman of the party, Julius Abure collected a bribe of N30m to admit Ativie into the party and “gave her a flag bearer ticket” for the federal constituency.
In the press conference addressed by the state chairman of the party, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi, in Benin on Tuesday , the party said: "Our National Chairman did not take money from anybody," adding "we challenge that those who hold this opinion should come forward with proofs."
Ogbaloi continued: "The National Chairman who is highly cerebra, nurtured Labour Party along with other patriotic leaders of the party over the last three decades without blemish. He is a complete gentleman and very transparent. He is disciplined and fair. His competence in dealing with public affairs is unequlled.”
According to him, all the allegations were orchestrated by the opposition parties following their determination to stain the "current enviable heights of our party."
He added: "The State Exco seriously reprimands some of our Local functionaries who on this matter , placed themselves negatively in public view. They did go beyond their constitutional boundaries and this will not be tolerated in future."
Comrade Ogbaloi further said “ our party is one big family which would never be distracted with Mundane issues of now value which some members of the opposition party and extraneous persons are trying to project.”
“We however challenged those insinuating that our process was compromised to the extent of accusing our National president of complicity to display and substantiate their perceived allegations, if not, we may be forced to consider a litigation option against the malicious author.”
Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi then called on party members and supporters to remain focus and redouble their resolve to take back our country from the hands of the scavenging cabal.
