Ahead of the 2023 population and housing census, the National Population Commission(NPC) has concluded its Edo State Stakeholders Summit, eliciting various commitments and support from the government and other relevant stakeholders for a successful headcount.

Declaring the event open in Benin City, Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki said "the inability of the government to conduct a reliable census has affected planning and sustainable development."
Governor Obaseki who was represented by Edo state commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Monday Osaigbovo, said: "no country relies on estimated data to formulate developmental policies and expects to get empirical results."

He then urged all Nigerians, most especially traditional rulers and opinion moulders to support NPC as the federal government alone can not execute the census project without the support of all"

In his welcome address, Federal Commissioner representing Edo state on the board of National Population Commission, Dr. Tony Aiyejina said "the commission has gone digital with all its processes for the 2023 census which will make the outcome of the project to be a complete departure from what was obtainable in the past projects".
Dr. Aiyejina said " the 2023 census will be technology driven which will enable us to provide reliable figures". He then called on the security agencies to help provide protection to our various enumerators as we are committed to integrity in discharging this national assignment.
In attendance at the stakeholders summit in benin were representatives of all the security agencies in the state, traditional rulers, religious leaders, market women, the youths, civil societies and allied groups as well as the media.

They all promised to support NPC in the conduct of the 2023 census in their various capacities.
