SDP Presidential Candidate, Prince Adewole Adebayo Charges Christian Leaders to Speak Truth to Power.
By Mike Aladenika.
The presidential candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the forthcoming general election in Nigeria,Prince Adewole Adebayo has called on all religious leaders, most especially, Christians to be upright in the discharge of their divine roles as guides to the rulers and the citizens alike.
Prince Adewole Adebayo who stated this in his Ondo town country home while hosting the Christian community to a Christmas carol and celebration said "I will always encourage the church, to rise above politics, so that when the politicians, however close he is to you misbehave, you can be at the pulpit and direct, just the same way the priest of old used to do.
The presidential hopeful whom political watchers have described as the dark horse for the 2023 elections said "The church must speak to power at all times and not bless evil. When someone steals public money, it is an aberration for the church to say God has blessed you. Stressing that "the church must be strong. When a politician does injustice, the church should be courageous enough to say this is injustice.
The Ondo-born politician said "Isaiah directed all, irrespective of their status, Samuel and other priests and prophets directed kings and nobles. I enjoin our churches to remain like that, irrespective of our contributions to the church we must not and can not control the church.
"If the church does this, God will have mercy on Nigeria, and truth and justice will come our way.
To political office holders, Prince Adewole Adebayo said wherever one finds oneself today is given in trust for God and the people.
"Power is useless, purpose is more important. Anything that is kept in one's hand is kept in trust. Even if our own life is in trust, it doesn't belong to us. If you live for 50year, or 100 years, it's not because your doctor is good but it's because God has a mission for you that He has you to fulfil.
The SDP Presidential candidate then expressed the vanity of all positions sought if not used to glorify God and build humanity.
"I talk to my friends that we are contesting together that this thing is useless. Those of yesterday is gone, we too will be gone, one day. The most important thing is for you to make a mark.
In her remarks, Prince Adewole Adebayo's wife, Queen Lilian Adebayo while thanking God and the Christian community in ondo said the event, though, the maiden would be sustained.
High points of the event were Choir administration, pastoral exhortation, presentation of a car gift to a five hundred-level law student, Damilola Akintewe who was the only Nigerian in the top 10 finalist in the inaugural 100,00 dollars cheque global student price award out of 300,500 applicants from 94 countries, where she advocated for the rights of women.
