By Mike Aladenika.
In the face of lingering fuel scarcity and irregular pricing of PMS in Edo state, the government has finalised the process of constituting a task force to monitor the supply and dispensing process of petroleum product in the state.
Addressing newsmen in Benin City, Tuesday, Commissioners for Mining and Energy, Ethan Uzamere and that of Communication and Orientation
Chris Osa Nehikhare said the state government identifies with the plights of citizens in the past few weeks in their attempts to get the product.
The government officials who were also supported by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, Crueso Osagie said the supply chain process of petroleum products has been compromised in Edo state.
"To this effect, the government has approved the composition of a task force to monitor the supply and distribution of products in the state.
"The task force will also, among other duties ensure that citizens get the product at the Federal Government regulated price as well as check hoarding and diversion of products.
The government officials who attended the media brief alongside the officials of the various Civil Society Organisations in Edo state say "the state has received 784,000 litres of PMS, which will be adequately monitored to ensure that the product is not diverted or sold at exorbitant prices to citizens.
“ we will continue to inform Edo people and citizens the total number of litters allocated to Edo state daily as the task force will work with other stakeholders to let the people know the filling stations that received products and how much each receives.
“The government has heard the cry of the people and is taking steps to ensure that PMS is readily available.
“Government is committed to this exercise and it will leave no stone unturned to ensure the welfare and well-being of the people.
“We are warning people who jack up and hike their prices to desist forthwith as the Committee will identify such persons and the government will ensure their prosecution. Edo people are the number one priority of the present administration,” Crusoe said.
