By Mike Aladenika.

The main opposition political party in Edo State, the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Monday commiserated with victims of the Igueben railway station kidnap.

According to media reports, about 4p.m on Saturday, 7 January, 2023 passengers who were at the Ekehen railway station; Igueben, Edo State waiting for the arrival of the train to Warri were all kidnapped by unknown gun men suspected to be herdsmen.

The victims, passengers and members of staff of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) were 32 in numbers but one managed to escape, while about five were reported to have been rescued.

Though no death was reported, but many of the victims were said to had sustained gun shot injuries.

The APC in its condolence delivered  through the media by its State Publicity Secretary, Peter Enoserogbe Uwadiae Igbinigie Esq said: "it is saddening to experience this, especially when we are still basking in the euphoria of the new year.

"However, this smack of the lack in the security apparatus in Edo State as been expected of the Chief Security Officer, Governor Godwin Obaseki.

"We have severally demanded that the Governor should explain to Edo people, what he does with the humongous security vote he receives from the Federal Government monthly.

"We are also not unaware that the Governor receives not less than N800m monthly to tackle insecurity in Edo State monthly."

Acknowledging the challenges which confronts the Police in the fight against crime and criminality in the State, the APC urged that they should continue to do their best especially now, to ensuring the victims are rescued unhurt and reunited with their family.
