The much talked about governorship debate organised by the Hausa service of the Voice of America, VOA, in Sokoto ahead of the 2023 governorship election came to a sudden end when hoodlums suspected to be political party thugs forced the organisers to disperse the gathering for safety.
The debate organized for governorship candidates of the various political parties contesting the number one government seat in sokoto state started and was sailing smoothly as no fewer than 6 governorship candidates of political parties turned up for the debate.
SPARKNEWSNAIJA News crew present at the event l reports that those who were present at the occasion for the debate include, Senator Abubakar Gada of the SDP, Hon. Saidu Umar of the PDP, Senator Umar Dahiru Tambuwal (NNDP), Comrade Aminu Umar Ahmed (LP), the APC candidate, Hon. Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto and Dr Ibrahim Liman Sifawa of the NDP.
The organizers of the debate had earlier appealed to the candidates, their supporters and the entire audiences to maintained absolute decorum and respect for all candidates.
While responding to questions from the organizers, the participating governorship candidates took advantage of the debate to once again state their mission and visions
Trouble however started when the floor was opened to the audience for questions and comments bordering on the State, Sokoto.
The first question which was greeted with ovation was asked by a female who wanted to know the plans of the respective governorship candidates for gender inclusion in leadership positions in the state.
As soon as the microphone was given to a guest who was said to be a PDP supporter, the , supporters of the All Progressive Congress (APC) raised alram over what they discribed as undue favour to the PDP, alleging the first two persons that asked were all members of the ruling PDP.
Supporters of the APC insisted that the microphone be given to somebody else, a development that resulted into a free for all fight between supporters of the APC and the PDP.
The brouhaha that ensued then made the management of the Usman Danfodiyo University (UDUS) and the organiser's to immediately asked everybody to vacate the auditorium, the debate venue to avoid possible breakdown of law and order.
