CENSUS 2023 : NPC Holds Media Sensitisaion For Journalists

The National Population Commission, Sokoto State office has successfully concluded the 2023 Population and Housing Census state level Training of Journalists on the preliminary knowledge and technical knowhow of its mandate.

While declaring the event open the Honourable Federal Commissioner of Sokoto State, Chiso Abdullahi Datijo defined Housing and Census as the overall collecting, processing, analysing, tabulation and publishing the Demographic, Economic and Social Data at a specified period of time known as and called Census Reference Point.
Chiso, a one time Deputy Governor of Sokoto State said "the main objectives of the 2023 population and Housing commission, PHC, is to produce comprehensive and statistical data; Benchmark for SDGs and housing data for Housing Policies.


Other main objective, he said,  "include comprehensive and updated frame and household data-base through special methodology with special interest on the use of the Census and Survey processing system (CSPRO) which is a public domain software package used by organisations.
In his own paper titled "Enumeration Demarcation Area for the 2023 Population and Housing Census" Malami Mafara Gagi, the State's Director NPC Sokoto outlined what is EAD, the objectives, EAD in Nigeria, Role of Maps in Census, EAD Strategies, Organization and Outcomes.

He also stated that the objectives of EAD is to delineate enumeration areas in the country, to facilitate the smooth enumeration of inhabitants during the enumeration period.
Mr. Jibreel Musa in his paper - "Processes and Methodology for the conduct of the 2023 Population and Housing Census" said that with the projected population of 216,783,381 Nigerian is reputed to be the seventh most populous country in the world and most populous on the African Continent.

That due to the rapidly growing nature of the population, Nigeria is also projected to be the third most populous country in the world come the year 2050 after India and China.

Hajiya Safiya  Abdullahi in her presentation "History of population Census in Nigeria focused on Pre-Independence Census of 1866 - 1953 and Post-Independence Censuses of 1952 - 2006 where she stated that Nigeria Census History can be decided into two parts I.e the pre independence (Colonial) and post independence Census Aras.
Safiya also touched on the structure of the Commission, its mandate and the Act that established the National Population Commission purely to ensure that the Journalist being trained will be able to at all times contribute to the commission growth efforts.
