2023 Election : Edo LP Visits Bereaved Families, Wants Electoral Violence Discouraged.

The leadership  of  Labour Party in Edo State has expressed sadness over the loss of two voters in last Saturday's election, noting that electoral violence must be discouraged and phased out.

The party  chairman, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi, supported by the Senator-Elect, Edo south Senatorial District, Bar. Neda Imasuen and other newly elected national legislators started this in benin city while on condolence visits to the families of two electorates killed during the election in ikpoba okha local government area of Edo State capital. 

The victims, late Festus Idahosa, Male, 33 years old, and late Mrs. Elizabeth Owie, a 43-year-old mother of three children aged, eight, six, and four years respectively, were reported to have fallen as a result of the bullets from the guns of supposed political thugs.

At the residence of deceased, the state chairman of Labour Party, Comrade Kelly Ogbaloi described Mrs Elizabeth Owie as "a gallant lady who epitomised the ideals of the Labour Party." He commiserated with the family of the deceased and promised that the LP would stand by the family.

He said,"It is a loss of a gallant lady. Her death is regrettable. If it is possible we would have brought her back to life. We grief as a party and we commiserate with the family and were are not on this condolence visit to score cheap political point.

While at late Festus Idahosa's residence, Comrade Ogbaloi said
"Idahosa shouldn't have been killed because he went to decide the future of the country by going out to vote. 

"The LP  will do its best to see that the families are supported and not left alone at this time of grief," he added.

Also speaking, the Edo South Senator-elect, Barr. Neda Imasuen said the deaths of the two persons was a sad one that should have been prevented.

He said,"This should not have happened to anyone that goes out to perform his or her civic responsibility.  We will be in touch with the family at this time and give them the necessary support.
The Senator-Elect said "It is time for the authorities to put an end to electoral violence. We cannot afford to lose responsible citizens as result of the activities of thugs," he added.

"Our hearts bleed today for the unwarranted loss of these lives. As we prepare to go into the next legislative session at the Senate, i will, as a matter of urgency, in conjunction with other Senators to provide a water-tight legislative backings by law to criminalize electoral related to violence. 
The families of the deceased thanked the Labour Party chairman, Senator-elect and other executives for identifying with them at this time.
