Consequent upon the landslide defeat suffered by the Governor Godwin Obaseki's PDP in the February 25th Presidential Election Where the party lost ridiculously with the Governor and all his principal characters in government loosing their units.
Edo state government is now at the verge of struggling for survival ahead of the next House of Assembly Election where electorates would decide between the ruling PDP, the opposition APC, and the new peoples bride, Labour Party.
As the shock attendant to the presidential election result in edo state is yet to abate within the Denis Osadebe avenue government house complex, report says principal characters are seeing another electoral defeat in the next election as the end of the road for this administration.
If signals emanating from the government house is anything to go by, then the party and government may be going through sleepless nights.
According to Governor Godwin Obaseki while addressing women from his constituency, ahead of the March 11 Election, "Plans are ongoing by the APC to rig their way through the March 11 Election so as to impeach the governor and stop his developmental programmes which have benefited the people of Edo State. Adams Oshiomhole and his party are planning to disrupt all the good works the governor is doing in Edo State.
The governor who was represented by the Chief of Staff said "We will stop him and his plans to disturb the governor and his developmental strides in Edo State. We are appealing to the people to vote for PDP and stop the enemy of the Edo people from halting our progress as a people. All our votes must be one way. It must be PDP all the way.
Similarly, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Projects, Crusoe Osagie, in a statement issued in benin city said "the recent statement by the former Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole on the fate of Governor Godwin Obaseki in the Edo State House of Assembly polls exposes his insidious plan to oust the current governor through impeachment.
Needless saying the obvious that the House of Assembly election will determine the fate of this administration. This much the government knows.
Possibly to check the seeming looming electoral failure, the government is not leaving any stone unturned. Investigations revealed that the government has thrown itself into the rings for the state NLC election with the sponsorship on the incumbent acting chairman, chief Odion Olaye, who is a PDP chieftain and chairman of the NURTW.
This supposed support for Olaye is believed, in some quarters, to be geared towards getting the support of the members of the NURTW on Election Day.
Whatever direction the current electoral cum impeachment panic may take, March 11, 2023 will determine Obaseki's fate.
