Tinubu Can Not Discuss With Bandicts, They Are Mere Criminals, Not Aggitators. . . Dr. Joseph Ikpea.
By Mike Aladenika
Contrary to calls from certain quarters, as championed recently by former Zamfara state governor, Alhaji Sani Yerima, that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should open up a negotiation line with bandicts operating in Nigeria with a view to inculcating them into the civil society and check mating their criminal tendencies, an All Progressives Congress(APC) chieftain from Edo State, Dr. Joseph Ikpea has said "the possibility of negotiating with Bandits is not acceptable to any right thinking Nigerian.
" It should be noted that banditry is criminality, in simple language it's short of armed robbery and other life threatening crimes. Why the should anyone in his right senses be calling for the enthronement and celebration of criminality in the country?
"I don't see the possibility of Mr President discussing with known evil people and professed criminals scattered across the states of the country in the past 6 years. These bandits were never agitators, neither were they crusading for any group of people. So, there is no level of comparison with the Niger Delta militants and agitators nor could the bandits be seen fighting a just course as kidnapping and other criminalities can never be likened to agitation and crusading for a people.
Dr. Joseph Ikpea, a former commissioner in Edo state and a front line governorship aspirant in the forthcoming 2024 governorship election, in a press statement issued in Benin-City, Monday, said " with due respect to the sensibilities of their advocates, these bandits should
be treated as criminals and their cases treated according to law of federal republic of Nigeria.
"Any attempt to treat bandits like the Niger Delta militants who are genuine agitators for a genuine course, it will create avenue for other people with criminal intent to join the business of unknown-gun-men who are into kidnapping and banditry.
Dr. Joseph Ikpea, then called on the vice president and other leaders of the northern extraction to, taking advantage of their wealth of experience, join Mr president to find a better alternative to ensure a lasting solution to the issue of bandits and unknown gun men whose activity have affected the nation's growth for years now, most especially in the agricultural industry.
