Edo State Govt to Launch Public Service Academy.

All is now set for the official launch of the John Odigie-Oyegun Public Service Academy  (JOOSPA)  in the state capital. The academy will also use the occasion to celebrate the 84th birthday of former Governor of Edo and retired federal permanent secretary, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, who the academy is named after.

Briefing newsmen on preparations for the launching, the Director -General of JOOSPA, Precious Imuwahen Ajoonu, pointed out that the vision of the academy is "To Strengthen Public Service Institutions in Africa through Capacity Building", noting that Governor Godwin Obaseki has always emphasised that "To effectively tackle our manpower challenges and prepare for the future, we must train our workforce". 


Imuwahen Ajoonu who took journalists on a guided tour of the facilities at the academy, said the academy has trained 5000 workforce in Edo State and is targeting to train at least 10,000 Edo workers by the end of the year.

The Director -General disclosed that the academy leverage on technology in the training of its clients as a trainee can be at Igueben and taking lectures in the comfort of his office.

"JOOPSA was established by the Edo State Government with a strategic intent to foster accelerated human capital development within the State Public Service. Under the leadership of Governor Godwin Obaseki, the administration's commitment to this 
objective is exemplified by the construction of a world-class Training Center. 

"This Center is thoughtfully designed and equipped with modern facilities, including classrooms, an amphitheater, a library, a sickbay, and tech labs, all of which are complemented by cutting-edge technologies, training aids, and equipment to enhance the leaning experience". 


While emphasising the reason the  academy was named after a quintessential bureaucrat, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, Imuwahen Ajoonu noted that JOOSPA is being positioned to play a pivotal role in driving positive change in the state. 

"We are deeply honored to have the Academy bear the name of HE Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, a retired Federal Permanent Secretary and First Executive Governor of Edo State. The decision to name the Academy after him goes beyond immortalizing his legacy during his lifetime; it serves as a celebration of his values, ethos, and unwavering commitment to creating public value and institutionalizing excellence in public service. 


"As we embark on this journey to empower and equip our public servants with the necessary skills, knowledge and abilities, we believe that JOOPSA will play a pivotal role in driving positive change and fostering a culture of excellence in public service".

The launching of the John Odigie-Oyegun Public Service Academy is slated for the 12th of August, in Benin City.
