Edo State chapter of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) has urged members of the State Working Committee to wake up to their responsibilities even as it commends Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki for his fatherly and matured manner with which he handled the feud between him and the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, urging them to work together in the interest of the state.
The commendation was part of the resolutions of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party held Tuesday, October 3, 2023.
The SWC also lauded the steps taken by Governor Obaseki to alleviate the plight of Edo people occasioned by the recent removal of subsidy on petroleum products by the All Progressives Congress (APC) led federal government.
"The SWC applauds the state leader of the party, His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki for the fatherly and matured way he handled the feud with his Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Comrade Philip Shuaibu. It urged the duo to work harmoniously together for the overall interest of the party and the state in general.
"The SWC noted with satisfaction the positive steps taken by His Excellency, Governor Godwin Obaseki, to ameliorate the hardships being suffered by the citizens of Edo State occasioned by the sudden removal of fuel subsidy by the APC led Federal Government".
While condemning the action of the state secretary of the party, Hilary Otsu for instituting a suit in court praying for the disqualification of all PDP candidates in the just concluded Local Government Council election, the SWC applauded the efforts of the leaders of the party to fully reconcile all its members, noting that recent appointments by Governor Obaseki is all inclusive.
"The SWC condemned the actions of the State Secretary, Chief Hilary Otsu, for instituting an action in court to disqualify all PDP candidates in the council polls. The Secretary was advised to withdraw the suit immediately.
"The SWC once again congratulated the State Governor, State Party Chairman, and the entire Edo PDP family over the landslide victories the party recorded during the just concluded councils polls. It urged the elected council chairmen and Councilors to hit the ground running inorder to complement the determination of the Obaseki led administration to finish strong.
"The SWC applauded the steps taken so far by the leaders of the party across the state towards ensuring a genuine reconciliation in the party. It noted that appointments made so far by the Governor have been all inclusive".
On the issue of absenteeism at SWC meetings, the SWC urged members to endeavour to attend meetings and admonished those who issue unauthorised statements on behalf of the Edo State chapter of PDP to desist from it henceforth, adding that it will no longer be tolerated.
"The SWC noted that this was its 8th meeting this year and 7 members have deliberately been absent in all the meetings.
The SWC advised the members concerned to retrace their steps by attending the next meeting on October 8, 2023.
"The SWC frowned at the release of unauthorized statements on behalf of the SWC by some members. This it noted will no longer be tolerated. It directed that all official statements must be approved by the SWC or the chairman as the case may be before going to press".
