AAU Unveils Truth, Reconciliation Committee As Governing Council Ends Meeting

Rising from its 232nd Regular meeting held recently in Ekpoma, the Ambrose Alli University's Governing Council  headed by its Chairman and Pro-Chancellor, Dr. Omo-Ehijele Frank Odafen has approved the constitution of a 15-Man Truth and Reconciliation Panel to facilitate  sustainable  action that will foster Reconciliation  in the University.

The committee which is to be chaired by Professor Kokunre Eghafona has its membership drawn from the various  Unions and Associations forming the body of stakeholders in the University community.

According to a statement issued by the University's Acting Registrar,  Comrade Ambrose  E. Odiase, copies of which were made available to newsmen in Benin City, the Governing Council has five representatives  in the committee while ASUU and CONUA have two each. SSANU, NAAT, NASU, PENSIONERS and the SUG all have one representative each.

The statement further said the panel which has up to two months to submit its report has among other Terms of Reference; "To invite memorandum from the various interest groups, individuals, staff, and students of the university.

"To identify the remote and immediate causes of animosity between the management, various interest groups, individuals, staff, and students of the university.

"To determine if the University Management acted outside the directives of the SIT-AAU (Governing Body of the University at the time).

Other Terms of Reference, according to the statement, include "To find out if the action(s) taken by the various interest groups, individuals, staff, and students were appropriate, and whether there were external influences, and if they were in the interest of the University.

"To determine if the actions of the various interest groups, individuals, staff, and students negatively or positively impacted the university.

"To provide a platform for a handshake leading to healing of injuries and enhance good working relationships and neighbourliness in the University.

"To look into any other matter incidental to 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 above.To submit its report to the Governing Council within 2 months from the date of its inauguration.The purpose of this memo is to inform you of the above decisions of Council for further necessary action.
