The Management of Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, has dismissed allegations of financial impropriety leveled against the new Governing Council by an online media platform.
Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, Principal Assistant Registrar (Information, Communication, and Public Relations), described the report as "fact turned on its head" and "sponsored write-up intended to cry wolf where there's none."
According to Aladenika, the allegations are baseless and aimed at demarketing the university. "It's unfortunate that some individuals have become tools for divisive elements seeking to bring the institution down."
Regarding the financial decision in question, Aladenika explained:
"At the Governing Council's first meeting, members reviewed the university's financial records and discovered idle funds in various accounts. To maximize returns, the council chose Globus Bank's 15% interest rate offer, expected to yield at least ₦100 million in interest. This will help offset financial burdens."
Aladenika emphasized the importance of seeking information and verifying facts. "We urge stakeholders to disregard baseless allegations and support the university's progress."
In a related development, Principal Assistant Registrar (Information, Communication, and Public Relations), has urged the University's ASUU chapter leadership to foster a convivial atmosphere of mutual understanding, promoting collective growth.
In response to the Union's press release, Aladenika stated, "While ASUU's demands may be well-intentioned, it is essential to recognize that relationships involve give-and-take. ASUU coexists with other unions and associations within the university ecosystem. Let's acknowledge AAU's potential for greatness."
He emphasized that the Governing Council, led by Dr. Omo-Ehijele Frank Odafen, has made significant strides in addressing inherited challenges, including:
- Backlog of unpaid salaries
- Staff promotions
- Conducive working atmosphere among others.
Notable achievements under the current Governing Council include:
- Worker appraisals and promotions
- Restoration of removed staff to the payroll
- Justice for allegedly victimized individuals
- Ongoing Truths and Reconciliation Panel addressing hundreds of petitions
Aladenika concluded, "Over 90% of staff and students support Dr. Omo-Ehijele Frank Odafen-led Governing Council. Let's unite to promote AAU's growth, rather than demarket it. The current trajectoryisfor us to see our Universty up there. We can do it and we will collectively do it."
