AAU Ekpoma, representing Nigeria, will compete alongside two other schools from Kenya and Botswana in the semi-finals of the continental competition.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of AAU Ekpoma, Professor Sunday Olowo Samuel, disclosed this in Abuja while addressing participants and guests at the 3rd Annual Lecture/Wazobia Cultural Day/End of the Year Dinner and Award Night organized by the AAU Ekpoma Alumni Association, FCT branch.
"Your university is getting better by the day, despite the challenges we have faced. We have determined, as a community, to put the past behind us and approach the future with diligence," Professor Samuel said.

He expressed his joy at being among the alumni and noted that the university's efforts to reposition itself are being noticed and appreciated.
Professor Samuel also highlighted AAU Ekpoma's achievements, including emerging as the 3rd best university in Nigeria in the Nigeria Medical Students Association (NIMSA) GAMES hosted by the University of Lagos, with 26 medals.

The university's Literary and Debating Society won the 1st prize in the Edo State competition for institutions of higher learning, while two Law graduates of AAU Ekpoma emerged as winners of the Johnny Agim (SAN) Essay Writing Scholarship Competition.

Professor Samuel disclosed that AAU Ekpoma has been nominated as the Most Exceptional State University of the Year, and he has been nominated as the Most Exceptional Vice-Chancellor of the Year for State Universities by the Nigerian Academic Excellence Awards (NAEA) 2024.
He appreciated Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for his support, including approving his trip to China for the World Vocational and Technical Education Conference, which has led to the signing of an MOU that will attract technology transfer, exchange programs, scholarships, and financial benefits to AAU Ekpoma.

Professor Samuel also commended the governor for increasing the monthly subvention to the university, effective November 2024, to alleviate salary payment problems and address the backlog of salaries owed to staff.
Awards were presented to deserving Nigerians, including AAU Ekpoma's Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sunday Olowo Samuel, at the event.
