One hundred and twenty-eight medical graduates of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, were recently inducted by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) at a ceremony in Ekpoma, Edo State.
During the swearing-in and oath-taking ceremony, Dr. Fatima Kyari, Registrar/Chief Executive Officer of MDCN, urged the new doctors to view their profession as a service to humanity. Represented by Dr Enejo Abdu, Deputy Registrar, Dr. Kyari stated:
"This marks the beginning of your medical career. Although your training may have been challenging, it is now that your knowledge will be put to the test. Be prepared to exemplify the values of Ambrose Alli University and our noble profession."
In their goodwill messages, Edo State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, and his Education counterpart, Dr. Paddy E. Iyamu, urged the new medical doctors to prioritize service to humanity over wealth acquisition. "The nation, and by extension, Edo State, needs your services to improve our healthcare system. As society has nurtured you to this point, it is expected that you give back through your services."
Prof. Reuben A. Eifediyi, Chief Medical Director of Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, and guest lecturer at the event, charged the new medical doctors to adhere to their professional oaths. He acknowledged the challenges that come with transitioning from medical students to practitioners.
In his opening remarks, Acting Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma, Prof. Sunday Olowo Samuel, said, "When the present management came on board, one of the inherited problems was the issue of the College of Medicine. Although we haven't solved all the problems, with the governor's unprecedented support, these challenges will soon be surmounted."
The event's highlights included the oath-taking and swearing-in of fresh doctors, presentation of awards to deserving doctors, and other notable activities.
