The Management of Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma has taken umbrage with a recent online publication aimed at disparaging the institution.
According to Otunba Mike Aladenika, Principal Assistant Registrar and Head of Information and Public Relations, the university won't be swayed by such reports. "We don't typically respond to biased publications, especially those that seem to overlook the positive developments in the university,"
Aladenika said in a telephone interview.
He questioned the credibility of the online platform, noting that its editor or supposed editorial board member holds a certificate from the very university they're trying to malign.
Aladenika emphasized that the university is thriving under its current management, with distinguished professors, academics and quality non academic professionals driving progress."
Aladenika reminded the online platform that it had previously been used to stir up crises in AAU, portraying the university as a hotbed of trouble and protests.
However, under the current management led by Prof. Sunday Olowo Samuel, the university has enjoyed relative peace, which has been a thorn in the side of the online news platform and its agents.
Regarding the AVC's frequent travels mentioned in the report, Aladenika explained that Prof. Samuel's outreach to stakeholders and education operators is a deliberate effort to secure assistance for the university, requiring constant engagement rather than a passive approach.
"You can verify that our College of Medicine is resurging, with admissions set to commence in various faculties and departments after clearing previous backlogs," he said.
Aladenika expressed surprise that the online newspaper seemed unaware of the university's recent achievements, including the induction of over 800 graduate nurses by the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria and the induction of medical doctors by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria, with the latest batch of 39 doctors set for induction on June 4, 2025."
Aladenika highlighted the university's achievements, noting that AAU's law students are current national champions in the Moot Court Competition and will represent Nigeria in the upcoming continental competition in South Africa.
He also mentioned that Medical Laboratory Science(MLS) students are sitting for their professional exams, with indexing currently ongoing.
Aladenika expressed optimism that the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and his government are pleased with the university's progress under its current management. He cited several initiatives, including the constitution of a new Governing Council led by Chief Dan Orbih, payment of the minimum wage, increased subvention from N41 million to N500 million, approval of promotions for professors and associate professors, and support for resolving issues with professional bodies.
Additionally, the governor sponsored the AVC's trip to China, where memoranda of understanding on technology transfer were signed, even as the university looks forward to the actualization of the 1.5 Megawatt Electrification Project.
"These are the stories and achievements that have made headlines in prominent newspapers recently, but seemingly eluded the attention of this online platform," Aladenika said.
