The Management of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, described the first year of Governor Monday Okpebholo’s administration as _rewarding and exceptional_ in the institution’s history.
In a statement released by the Vice‑Chancellor, Prof. Mrs. Eunice Eboiserehimen Omonzejie, on behalf of the Pro‑Chancellor /Chairman and members of the Governing Council, Senate, Management, staff and students, which was made available to journalists in Benin City, the university noted that; “Until the emergence of Senator Monday Okpebholo as Governor of Edo State, Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, was on the verge of collapse due to the suffocating policies of the previous administration over the past eight years, which brought untold hardship to the institution.”
The statement highlighted key achievements under Governor Okpebholo’s leadership, to include but not limited to the financial bailout reflected in a substantial increase in the monthly subvention; the constitution of a viable and effective Governing Council chaired by Chief Dan Orbih; and the appointment of a substantive Vice‑Chancellor and other principal officers among others which has corrected the ill‑administrative positions of the past.
The Vice‑Chancellor also said,
“The implementation of the new minimum wage, the payment of salary arrears, and other decisive steps taken within just one year to reposition the university are highly commendable. We are currently undergoing a comprehensive re‑accreditation process for almost all our courses, which were left unattended by the previous administration. This reflects the Governor’s desire to see the university grow within the shortest possible time.”
Prof. Omonzejie added that the university community is happy with the progress made so far and looks forward to further support that will grow the institution in line with Governor Monday Okpebholo’s SHINE agenda.
“We are also appreciative of the quality personality and character of the Pro‑Chancellor/Chairman and members of the Governing Council, as well as the stewardship of the Ministry of Education, whose individual and collective efforts have helped in no small measure to reposition the university,” she concluded.
