By Esosa Omorogbe

The Pro‑Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Chief Dan Osi Orbih, has assured the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) that the university is ready to partner with the commission to improve its infrastructure.
Chief Orbih made the statement while leading the Governing Council‑in‑Session to receive an NDDC delegation and the contracting firm handling the 11‑km intra‑campus road‑network project facilitated by the Pro‑Chancellor.
“Your works and infrastructural projects in the Niger Delta region are exemplary,” he said. “We at Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, are prepared to key into this with a view to addressing our infrastructural shortcomings.”

He added that the university would appreciate NDDC’s intervention in key areas of its infrastructure upgrade. “We are not only looking at road construction within our campus, but also lighting these roads to the extent of turning the university into a city for our community,” Chief Orbih said.
The Pro‑Chancellor also warned potential road users to be cautious, noting that the roads are not racing tracks for motorists and that rough driving after completion will attract sanctions.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Samuel Ogbuku, was represented by the Edo State Director, Mrs Mercy Babawale.
Mrs Babawale, speaking through the Assistant Director, Projects (NDDC), Engr Omoruyi Gabriel, said the NDDC remains committed to developing the region.
She explained that the visit to Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, was to formally take over the sites for the road‑construction project and to hand them over to the contracting firm. “At NDDC you can be assured of the quality of work on these roads. We are going to turn your university community into a city,” she said.

Mrs Mercy Babawale
commended the Pro‑Chancellor for facilitating the road project and assured that more projects would be assigned to the university through the instrumentality and connections of Chief Dan Orbih.
In her address at the meeting, the Vice‑Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, Prof. Mrs Eunice Eboiserehimen Omonzejie, said: “NDDC could not have arrived at AAU, Ekpoma at a better time. Your impact is urgently needed to address our infrastructural shortcomings.
We cannot thank our Pro‑Chancellor enough for pulling the necessary strings to bring this project to the university,”
Prof. Omonzejie assured the Pro‑Chancellor and the Governing Council that the university’s management is ready to work hand‑in‑hand with the council to develop the institution.
The highlight of the meeting was the formal signing of the relevant documents for the road‑construction project. It is worth noting that work on the 11‑km intra‑campus road network has already commenced and is expected to cover all the roads on campus.
